Dax alienates everyone by talking about tennis

Today Roger Federer won Wimbledon, his record-setting 15th overall Grand Slam championship. The match against Andy Roddick lasted five sets, with a fifth set score of 16-14...

...see, at Wimbledon (and every Grand Slam tournament other than the U.S. Open) there's no tie-break rules for a fifth set once you get to 6-6, so the only way to win is to break the other opponent's serve and then serve out the match (i.e. win by two). So...a 16-14 fifth set in a championship final is pretty amazing.

Today's Wimbledon final between Raphael Nadal and Roger Federer was maybe the best final in that tournament's long history (the classic Borg/McEnroe final of 1980 was possibly better).

Anyways, here's a page from Takeshi Konomi's 'Prince of Tennis' manga. It ran for 379 chapters (42 volumes, which sold over 40 million copies in Japan). There's also been an animated series (178 episodes), a theatrically released animated movie, a live action movie, more than fifteen stage musicals (!), a radio show, numerous video games, etc.

Briefly, I'm too much of a tennis geek to not mention Roger Federer's 5th Wimbledon championship in a row.

Federer's won 11 Grand Slam championships, and is now just three away from tying Pete Sampras' record (Federer's 26 years old--which is 'middle age' in pro tennis years--but, barring injury, will certainly overtake Sampras).

Consider this: Federer has won 10 of his 11 majors in the last four years. That means he's won 10 of the last 15 majors total. Which is insane.
